SOMATIC EXPERIENCING

Somatic Experiencing® (SE), Support for Your Body and Nervous System

Ease and Insight Wellness offers Somatic Experiencing® in Langford, BC, for people who want support with stress, overwhelm, shutdown, or the lingering effects of challenging experiences. SE is a gentle, body-focused therapy that helps your system become more flexible in its responses to life’s demands.

Rather than pushing through or relying on willpower, SE works with your body’s natural signals and pacing. The goal is to help your system respond in ways that are neither overreactive nor shut down, so you can meet daily life with more steadiness and choice.

Our Approach

Somatic Experiencing is a talk-based therapy that focuses on the body, not just conversation. While we talk during sessions, much of the work is about noticing how your body responds in the moment and learning what helps it feel supported.

Together, we explore how your system reacts to stress and how to recognize what would be most helpful, whether that’s taking action, pausing, or offering yourself comfort. This work is not about pushing through discomfort, but about working with your system at a pace that allows it to settle safely.

Sessions are guided by your nervous system’s timing, which can be slower than expected. This pacing helps your body gradually shift out of survival responses like fight, flight, or freeze, and into a more settled, restful state. As this happens, it often becomes easier to access clarity, reflection, and thoughtful response rather than reacting from panic or overwhelm.

Clear communication and informed consent are always central. You’re encouraged to share feedback, pause, or adjust the pace at any point.

What Is Somatic Experiencing?

Somatic Experiencing is different from traditional talk therapy. You are not required to relive or retell difficult experiences in detail. Instead, the focus is on present-moment awareness and supporting the body’s ability to regulate stress.

Sessions may include guided attention to sensations in the body, breathwork, small movements, or noticing sensations such as temperature, pressure, or contact with the chair or the floor. Supportive touch may also be offered when appropriate, with your consent, for example, gentle contact on the hands, arms, or shoulders to help the body feel grounded and supported.

The work is collaborative and always choice-based.

Somatic Experiencing® (SE), Support for Your Body and Nervous System

Somatic Experiencing® (SE) is a gentle, body-focused therapy that helps your nervous system respond to stress in a flexible, balanced way.

SE isn’t just talk therapy; it works with your body’s natural signals to help you notice tension, overwhelm, or shutdown and guide your system toward a calmer, more regulated state. Sessions are paced according to your body, not the clock, and are designed to help you respond to stress without overreacting or underreacting.

Our Approach

At Ease in Insight Wellness in Langford, BC, we use evidence-informed SE practices with a client-centred focus.

Each session begins by exploring how your body is feeling in the present moment. This may include noticing:

* Breath or heartbeat

* Muscle tension or areas of ease

* The feeling of your body in a chair or on a blanket

Through gentle conversation, awareness practices, and optional touch (always with consent), you learn to notice your system’s responses and discover what supports you best, whether that’s a pause, a small movement, or resting.

The goal is to help your nervous system become more flexible and resilient, so daily stress feels easier to manage. Over time, you’ll build a more trusting, responsive relationship with your body, one session at a time.

What to Expect

Sessions move at your pace and are always guided by your comfort. Through gentle conversation and simple body-awareness practices—with supportive touch when appropriate—you’ll explore your system’s signals in safe, manageable ways. These small, intentional steps create opportunities for healing, reconnection, and more balanced wellbeing over time. Every session is collaborative and supportive, allowing you to find steadiness at a rhythm that suits your system.

You’re encouraged to wear comfortable clothing. Sessions often begin by taking time to settle into the space and feel supported where you are. Your practitioner may guide you with gentle questions or prompts, helping you pause and notice your body. This could include noticing your breath, the texture or warmth of a blanket, or the feeling of the chair beneath you. The session follows your body’s natural rhythm. Through gentle conversation and focused awareness, you’ll begin to notice when your system feels tense, overwhelmed, or shut down, and explore ways to bring comfort and ease back to yourself. You may review simple skills or practices to support nervous system flexibility and regulation between sessions.
